Today is Labor Day so here's hoping you all have a good rest, do some fun things for the holiday because starting on Tuesday we have a big week in Kellogg Wildcat athletics!
Tuesday, KHS soccer travels to Orofino to take on the Maniacs in an IML tilt. Volleyball heads to Timberlake for a big non-league game with the Tigers. Wednesday our ladies host their first home game against St. Maries in a big CIL volleyball match at venerable Andrews Gymnasium
KHS soccer gets back at it on Thursday with a trip to Grangeville as they try to avenge an early season loss in another IML match. Friday, we have a chance to see the future of Wildcat Volleyball as the JV battles Mullan at the Mullan Pavilion. All of this is just a warm up for the weekend.
Big Saturday starts off with the Cross Country team battling the state's best at Farragut for the Timberlake Farragut Invitational. If you have never been to this, you need to go. Spectacular views with great racing. Kellogg Middle School boys and girls get after it on Saturday, too, as the volleyball teams travel to St. Maries for the season opening Jamboree at St. Maries High School. The KMS football team opens up the middle school CIL league season with a home game against Grangeville at Historic Teeters Field.
Back at Andrews Gymnasium the KHS volleyball team plays Grangeville, working to complete the series sweep in CIL play. Meanwhile, those of you that love taking road trips need to head to beautiful Salmon, Idaho to watch the KHS football team battle the Salmon Savages.
And an exciting note to share. The IHSAA has awarded Kellogg and Priest River as co-hosts for the 2027 IHSAA 3A State Golf Tournament to be held at Stoneridge Golf Club. Thanks to KHS golf coach, Danny Kenyon, for spearheading this. It will be great to have the KHS golfers battling in the North this year.

Before our first game, I want to share key adjustment for our upcoming home opener against Bonners Ferry this Friday at 7:00 PM at Teeters Field.
After careful consideration and feedback, we are moving our teams sideline to the far side of the field, across from the bleachers.
There are two major reasons for this strategic change:
- Creating a True Home-Field Advantage: Having our team face the bleachers puts the full energy of our community and the noise from the band and nearby venues directly behind us. Making the game as loud as possible creates a tough mental environment for visiting teams, making it harder for them to communicate plays, make adjustments, and stay focused through all four quarters.
- Better Field Conditions & Equipment Protection: As the season progresses, the sideline closest to the bleachers frequently floods and turns into a swamp. Moving our bench keeps our players dry and protects our athletic training gear, as storing supplies under the trainer's table in mud and water damages our equipment.
In football, every detail matters, and protecting our home field starts with utilizing every advantage we have. One core principle I emphasize to our players is simple: We Do Not Lose At Home.
We need the entire Wildcat community in the stands this Friday at 7:00 PM. Show up, bring the noise, wear your school colors, and help us kick off this new era of Kellogg football with a victory!
